Elements
to consider when ordering custom jewelry: |
|
Length ¤ |
Choker, 16", 18" and
20" are common lengths for necklaces; 7.5" is a common length
for a bracelet. A good way to determine the length you want is to
drape a ribbon around your neck or wrist until it hangs in the proper
place and then measure the ribbon. |
|
Stringing Material ¤ |
The material used for stringing
is determined first by the style of the piece. For necklaces and
bracelets that are strung from end to end with beads, I use a stringing
material that is strong enough to withstand the weight of the
stones. For pieces that incorporate
space as an element of design, I use either chain (sterling silver or
rolled gold) or silk. If you want the stringing material to be
visible, then we can determine the best color for the design. |
|
Earrings ¤ |
Leverback,
french hook, kidney
wire and post are common earring
types; earrings can be either sterling silver or gold. Almost any
earring that I design can be made with clip- or screw-on ear clips for
people who can't wear pierced earrings. |
|
Clasp ¤ |
Hook-and-eye,
spring ring, pearl
safety, lobster claw and toggle are common clasp
types. They are available in different materials (sterling silver
and gold) and sizes. Larger clasps work well for people with long
fingernails; magnetic and hook-and-eye clasps work well for people who
have difficulty grasping small items. |
|
Beads ¤ |
Beads come in almost every size,
shape, color and material that you can imagine. I like to work with
everything from tiny seed beads to large stone nuggets.
Semi-precious stones, like amethyst, garnet and aventurine, and Swarovski
crystals are popular materials. |
